I’ve got to hand it to Mary Boone; she has a great eye and so do her curators. Assembled by Klaus Kertess, Fourteen/Hooking Up, brings together a group of artists working with diverse humble materials. The show looks incredibly contemporary. In fact, I had assumed the work was all made by young artists working in the “Unmonumental” style until I saw that the check list included Robert Rauchenberg, Cy Twombly and Keith Sonnier. Alexandra Birken, who was included in last year’s debut exhibition at the New Museum Unmonumental, is a little younger of course at 41, so the impression wasn’t entirely unfounded. Like the Cecily Brown I discussed yesterday, this show closed Saturday as well, but I’m including few highlights after the jump regardless. There are a lot of reasons to be visiting Chelsea right now, most importantly, the large number of high quality exhibitions on view.
