Hipster Art Deer Now on Cakes

Cake Wrecks seems to think this deer is unsuited for cake but I disagree.  This dessert has Williamsburg hipster art party 2006 written all over it.   I took a quick look on the Rare, Derek Eller, and Leo Koenig websites for art with a similar bent, but it looks like the deer reproduction market has slowed down.  The work of unrepresented artist Hae Jae Lee has a comparable aesthetic relationship to cake so I’m including a piece below.  She’s depicting interiors of course, but how could I not note the similarly tipped horns?

Marc Swanson (Bellwether) makes the best deer art, hoofs down.

Dennis Oppenheim’s “Digestion Gypsum Gypsies” predates both hipster symbolism and chandeliers…

147 comments! I liked this one from “Hey You”:”The deer has got to be plastic, how else would it look so good and the rest look so wrecky?” “Real Live Lesbian” was quick on the draw.

I also learned that the deer is a refrigerator magnet, and “ROTFLMAO.”

I have a deer fridge magnet, but it looks more like a German Shepherd with antlers. (which makes it very precious)

I absolutely love this. It shows every short-cutter that there is indeed hope in baking a cake!!

Who knows, deer artists might be leaning in the direction of catering in this bad economy.

Hipsters should start opening small cafes in thrift stores to sell ticky-tacky pastries like this.

Ann Craven’s deers and beers show at gasser grunert a couple years ago was a great deer art show. Deer paintings with buckets of cold beer set up for the whole show not just the opening. Also Mark Dion’s deer heads dipped in tar are pretty gross/awesome. Thanks for the link to the cake blog i have a ‘dog fucker’ cake from my friends 6th bday party to send them.

i’m sure a quick glance at yossi, bruce, and jen’s galleries would turn up some photos.

I’m hungary and want some cake. Is there real deer in that cake?
