Best Link Ever! Centaurs with Tri-Titted Babes and Slim Thug

THIS IS THE OPPOSITE OF WORKSAFE. Now that we have that out of the way, this week’s Best Link Ever goes to Billy Rennekamp‘s blog itsreal.com. Featuring a menagerie of purposefully unstructured, doctored images set against Slim Thug’s “Like a Boss,” itsreal.com falls into prototypical “netart with a capital N” territory. (Other such artists include fellow Loshadka member Petra Cortright and the collective BFFAE3.) Components of the site are annoying in a “your little brother has been playing Sega for 8 hours straight” kind of way, but arguably it’s this brash, juvenile, ADD attitude making this breed of netart successful. That the blog is physically unstructured and grating should not connote that it’s poorly considered: Rennekamp has a keen eye for images elucidating internet-specific phenomena, and organizes them into such nightmares as itsreal.com, unraveling the oft-convoluted experiences of cyberspace. Considering the psychosocial bizarreness of one’s own computer, Rennekamp’s newest effort highlights that collectively—for some reason—we really would like to believe babe-dogs and Centaurs exist.
