A sculpture made from wooden thrift-shop chairs by Marc Andre Robinson. “Unmonumental: The Object in the 21st Century,” the first exhibit at The New Museum
Yahoo answers’ deep knowledge base brings us much needed resolution to questions we failed to ask during last week’s crap on crap debate.
What are the best objects to make a contemporary assemblage sculpture with?
Best answer:
I’d suggest whatever objects catch your attention. That when assembled communicate an idea and aren’t just a cluster of items for the sake of just making an assemblage.
Glad we got that question solved.

That “found chairs doing a backflip” was done in the late 80s/early 90s by a Texas-based sculptor named Joseph Havel. I’ll look for a picture–you’ll be amazed how similar the Robinson sculpture is. I’ve seen the trope elsewhere, too. Good attack of the clones material and the perfect thing to ask Yahoo Answers about.
