Has the press magnet that is collector Charles Saatchi lost its charge? A variation of this question and humorous responses can be found in Saatchi’s new book, My Name is Charles Saatchi and I Am an Artoholic published by Phaidon. According to the Independent’s Tom Lubbock, it’s a bit of a lightweight as far as books go — simply a sequence of previous published Q&A’s — but we’re fond of at least a few highlights provided. Our aforementioned favorite below:

Was Sensation your high point and have you been going backwards since?

Well, it is never nice to be told your best days are behind you. But you’re probably right. I certainly was more dynamic once, building my advertising business and my art collection with ferocious energy. Now that I have fizzled out, I still enjoy putting on shows of art that I like and introducing new artists to our visitors, so I hope it makes it worthwhile to plod on.

Speaking of fizzling out, do any artists update their profiles at Saatchi Online anymore? I’m guessing artists would have better luck placing their art on Facebook (though we don’t recommend that either).

Rebecca Wilson has very generously provided me with exposure for the “James Kalm” report at Saatchi Online TV for several years. I don’t mess around with the gallery section, but who can argue with 50 million views a day?
