Art Fag City Almost Wins Eyebeam’s World Series of Tubing

POST BY PADDY JOHNSON

This Friday I nabbed the number one position amongst Internet professionals in Eyebeam’s World Series of Tubing, only to be quickly dethroned by a contestant drawn from the crowd. Conceived by Jeff Crouse and Aaron Meyers, this particular permutation of YouTube contest assumes audience members have already seen most of the chosen videos and, therefore, plays the competing videos of each round simultaneously for audience lazer voting.

I suppose the structure of the game (not to mention my loss) only goes to show that professional surfer doesn’t connote expertise of any sort, though I’m inclined to question the wisdom of either the crowd or counter when I’m On A Boat wins a round in a surfing competition (this video was not played in a round I competed in). I’ll be posting highlights from my playlist later in the day, but in the meantime enjoy a highly AFC centric slideshow of the evening. Thanks to the camera work of Chris Tusciuk and AFC intern Marina Galperina for making this slideshow possible.

I would like to claim Shenanigans! I have no clue what this contest really is about but if it was truly worth merit they would have given “I’m on a Boat”a proper burial at sea. That said, the real intellectuals on the internet consider this blog to be a cultural treasure. So keep it up!
