“There are places in the art world where no one can hear you scream,” reads the introductory text in the Art Handling Olympics promo video. Since writing about the event in early November, we’ve not learned any more about what this project even is, but if the YouTube clip above is any indication, it will involve parodying the job of an art handler.  This means torturous hours of holding up framed kittens for indecisive dealers, working alongside bored gallerinas who do nothing but shop for expensive footwear online, and general humiliation. Currently the Art Handling Olympics has only announced “March” as their launch date, an ambiguity acknowledged in the video itself. “What do you know about this Olympics bullshit?” asks one handler. “Oh, they’ve been talking about that Art Handler Olympics ever since Crozier had horse and buggies.”

This event will be hosted by Ramiken Crucible.

I’m game, bring it on… I’m a Crozier alum from the 90’s along with the irrepressible Jerry Saltz, Peter Acheson and Mike Assente. Please God give me one more shot at them.

Flat white touch-ups have lost their thrill, the zing of getting three quotes for a small piece needing a cross-town van trip NOW! – is gone. I may not win, but I might find funding for my film: “Mysteries of Ancient Art Handling.” Those Easter Island statues did not put themselves up, you know…. .

Will there be both team and individual judging ?

Maybe an old timers day game?
