Competitors hang out in front of Ramiken Crucible catching some pre-event rays.

The following BLNK photo essay accompanies today’s earlier post detailing yesterday’s first ever Art Handling Olympics held at Ramiken Crucible. Enjoy!

Two handlers showing off socks and trucking underwear!

And we’re off! Teams ran down East Broadway on their way to Bar 169

Bar 169’s dumplings and shots were ready to be downed by racing handlers.

Eat quick guys! Team Screw Em admitted to losing time after chatting in the bar a little too long.

Handlers leave Dispatch Gallery after having picked up their art work.

What’s an Olympic cheerleader without a little pink?

MC and AHO Founder Shane Caffrey announces the winners of the Qualifying round.

The judges! From left to right: Carlo McCormick, Senior editor of Paper Magazine, Justine Birbil, the Director of Michael Werner Gallery and Filippo Gentile, the head preparator at the Brooklyn Museum.

HOW’S IT HANGING?

Left: Dept. 13 (Crozier) Right: Quick and Dirty (DIETL). Quick and Dirty won that match hands down.

PACK IT IN

The Well Hung dispute the judges claim that their packing resembled a shoe.

“It looks like they're packing a piece of garbage in another piece of garbage” exclaims MC Shane Caffrey!

More discussion over the shoe-ness of the package.

THE STATIC HOLD

A German curator played by Ted Riederer yells at the handlers for not holding his weighty objects straight enough.

I am surrounded by incompetence! Riederer sighs, while he takes out a cell phone. Naturally the handlers must hold the work steady while the curator chats it up with his friends.

THE ELIMINATOR

The Kings of Cleats in front of a mystery crate.

The Kings of Cleats make the hanging object above out of the materials they find in the craft. Judges question the merit of leaving the duck, tambourine, and steel wool so far out in front of the hung blanket.

Well Hung unwraps the same package.

The Well Hung make an Abu Ghraib-esque work the judges describe as an inspired Christo reference.

THE PRIZE!

The Kings of Cleats celebrate their gold medal win while The Well Hung takes the silver!
