BEST LINK EVER! Psychic Octopi

by David Harper on July 10, 2010 · 12 comments Best Link Ever!

Forget the Russian spies or the still leaking well in the Gulf of Mexico. One of the biggest news stories of this week is about a German psychic octopus named Paul. Dubbed the oracle of Oberhausen, Paul has correctly predicted all six of Germany’s World Cup games, including this week's loss to Spain in the semi-finals, by selecting food from one of two containers, decorated with the flags of the competing nations. He's chosen Spain again to take the finals, prompting chefs from Barcelona to Bilbao to respectfully pull pulpo from their menus.

As the World Cup concludes this weekend, Paul certainly has earned more foes than friends, predicting England, Serbia, Argentina, Ghana, and even his own homeland's ejection from the competition.  In honor of those nations who Paul has so coldly betrayed, and without revealing where any personal allegiances lie, this week's Best Link Ever!!! comes from an episode of a completely insane Japanese children's television show. from the mid 1970's called “Kure Kure Takora.” Here an adorable, though clearly not psychic, octopus watches a miniature version of himself absolutely beaten to a pulp-o. Did I get my point across, Paul?

And he was right again, correct 8 out of 8 times in the 2010 World Cup!!! I wonder if we put the faces of the remaining Work of Art contestants of those plastic containers, who Paul would pick?

He’s not German, actually – he’s an English octopus living in Germany.

It is very interesting for me to read that article. Thank author for it. I like such topics and everything connected to this matter. I definitely want to read more soon. BTW, pretty nice design you have here, but don’t you think design should be changed from time to time?
