Horse-Man Conversation Sparks Hindoo 5 Cent Cigar Reference

Victor Vaughn, Untitled 2009, multiple set of digital prints, Variables of 17x11 and 12x18 prints- Curator, James Shaeffer

I haven’t a clue what to make of Victor Vaughn’s horse digital drawings, but I enjoy their absurdity. Currently on display at PPOW, the dipytch is part of curator James Shaeffer’s zu täuschen den Schutzhund, one of six mini-exhibitions within show organizer Amani Alu’s Young Curators New Ideas. This particular group exhibition including Vaughn, AIDS 3D and Ben Schumacher, addresses the idea of loss of authorship and re-materiality on the web, a hot topic as of late. Naturally, Shaeffer has set up a satellite website he invites visitors to peruse so they can print the work out at home — a slightly gimmicky concept, but one I appreciate none-the-less. I happen to want a few of those Vaughn works.

Meanwhile, last night a friend referred me to The Hindoo 5 Cent Cigar skull drawing on Anonymous Works, complete with child head eyes and a stitched dress for lips. It promptly reminded me of the Victor Vaughn above, though 5 Cent Cigar bests the horse-man conversation in absurdity. This guy is available on ebay for $36 bucks, but given the number of Facebook shares it’s received I doubt it will sell for that. You can print an image out, but in this case it’s just not the same.

Wondering what digital drawings means? done from scratch with a drawing program like illustrator? I like them.. I really like the skull of two girls, this is fantastic.
