[Sponsor] Norte Maar Presents “The Brodmann Areas,” April 12—15

by Art Fag City on April 9, 2012 Events

Norte Maar invites you to The Brodmann Areas, a new collaborative ballet that explores the workings of our minds through dance. The ballet dives into the gaps and synapses that define the 52 regions of the cerebral cortex. Forming a vast and complex web of collaborations among different parts of the brain, these areas are responsible for our interpretation of sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste. Just as science continues to map the mind and its methods of perception, The Brodmann Areas attempts to decode the impulse to action and the movement of language.

Highlights includes choreographer Julia K. Gleich's Ï€ dance, a new film created by painter and poet Paul D'Agostino, a projection and sound experimentation by duo Audra and Margo Wolowiec and a dance, set to a score by Stefan Wolpe, responding to a series of paintings by Abstract Expressionist Jack Tworkov. The ballet is directed and choreographed by Gleich, with musical direction by Ryan Francis and décor and costumes by Tamara Gonzales. The dancers are Dylan Crossman, Michelle Buckley, Jace Coronado, Morgan McEwen and Abbey Roesner.

The Brodmann Areas will take place at the Center for Performance Research (361 Manhattan Ave., Brooklyn) on April 12, 13 and 14 at 7:30 pm, and April 15 at 2 pm. Tickets are $25 ($20 for seniors/students) and can be purchased at nortemaar5.eventbrite.com.
