[Update] The Andy Monument Will Leave Union Square for Houston, Texas

In May, AFC reported that Rob Pruitt’s The Andy Monument would stay in Union Square through the end of the summer. This week, the Contemporary Art Museum Houston (CAMH) unveiled a crowdsourcing campaign to bring The Andy Monument to Texas in September 2012, where it will stay through the end of the year. The sculpture will be on view in Union Square until September 4, 2012.

In the campaign video, “Bring Andy to Houston,” the museum’s director Bill Arning puts on a convincing, goofy plea for bringing Andy Warhol to the CAMH’s small, triangular lawn on the corner of Bissonet and Montrose:

“As you drive past, you will see the glittering life-sized Andy Warhol and you’re going to be like ‘What’s that? Let’s stop and take our photograph!”

Well, traffic jams aside, the shiny chrome Andy would compliment the CAMH’s silver museum, and, as Arning states in the video, “You’ll love having Andy here! Parties are always better with Andy Warhol.”

The CAMH hopes to raise $32,000 to bring The Andy Monument to Houston. Over the phone, Arning stated that the monument will arrive in late September, regardless of the funds gained from the crowdsourcing campaign. “It’s a really good way to get the community involved,” he told us over the phone this morning. The CAMH’s ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on October 20, 2012 and The Andy Monument will be on view at the CAMH through the end of the year.

We’re not sure where shiny Andy will land after the CAMH, but Arning speculates that Public Art Fund, the organization responsible for commissioning the monument, may want to send it on a coast-to-coast tour.

I guess they don’t realize it’s Robert Storr, not Andy.

These are amazing websites. I really liked the concept of Inception. Thanks for coming up with them!
