Chelsea

We’ve all heard by now that Chelsea, New York’s largest gallery district, is in the high flood risk Zone A. Residents in that area were forced to evacuate yesterday by orders of Mayor Bloomberg, and reports of Hudson River flooding near Battery Park begun this morning over Twitter. According to reports by AFC’s Whitney Kimball, so far the Chelsea Piers haven’t experienced any flooding, and for the most part, the streets around the galleries are clear. There are, however, a fair number of people walking their dogs and playing with their kids. We’ll have more on this as it develops.

And the water’s risen since we were there this morning:

For more, Hyperallergic’s Jillian Steinhauer (@jilnotjill) just tweeted a link to this collection of Sandy photos on Instagram: instacane.com
