I’m only gonna party this week. AFC began the holiday celebrations this Sunday when we launched the first AFC Wienerfest and Fundraiser and will continue them tomorrow when we head to Flux Factory’s Not So Silent Auction. This is a residency program that knows how to have a good time.

For those who aren’t aware of Flux Factory and the work they do, let me begin by saying—they’re awesome and they deserve your support. I’ve made studio visits at the residency on multiple occasions, and I’m always introduced to artists who are  making fantastic work. I keep in touch with many of the artists who are part of the program, because they are talented and I want a chance the chance to write about their work. Theodoros Stamatogiannis, Man Bartlett, and Anders Bojen and Kristoffer Ørum are just few of those artists on my list.

I can’t overstate how important it is to support the few organizations that so consistently nurture such strong artistic practices. As a blogger, I’m given seemingly endless opportunities to write about artists like Damien Hirst and Dan Colen; artists whose work sells for a lot of money, but don’t have anything meaningful to say.  These artists get more than their fair share of attention and everyone knows it.

What we want, are more opportunities to talk about art that is meaningful and engages a community through means less fleeting than money. Flux does all this and more, they just don’t have a massive cash reserve at their disposal to tour their programs from art fair to art fair. Your support, today, isn’t just a gift to what they do, but a gift to the art community at large. It’s an investment in the community that produces the art we’d like to talk about, as opposed to the art we about.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. Thank you so much for recognizing the importance of this kind of work – on the individual and organizational levels – and for your support, Paddy! We can’t wait to celebrate with you tonight.
