Chantal Rousseau needs to make more GIFs. There are currently 25 hand drawn GIFs on her site, and that’s not enough for me. There’s a quirky humor to her work, which combines cats and owls, or laser beams a dick, and I would like to see more of it on her site.
Currently residing in Kingston, Ontario, Rousseau writes that her work beings together together popular culture, sex, death, and technology. Her paintings seem to be less about that than some of her other work, but given the medium, I’m willing to look past the absence of tech in that work. These GIFs, which use choppy, meme-like animation, look a little like what would happen if Lynda Barry’s drawings fought Robert Bateman‘s and she won. Brilliant.
