Thank the sound gods for Undervolt & Co. When the most sublime, high-tech, and generally aesthetically engaging graphics tend to come from commercial content, there’s value in seeing how the audio-visual contingent of contemporary art grapples with the same issues. For Undervolt’s summer 2015 sampler, artist Brandon Blommaert created a sound-graphic synthesis, a preview of which comes from this green-screen gem-like GIF; it reminds me of the graphics you’ll see with opening-screen credits, when words get shoved away. For a fuller insight into Blommaert’s 2015 commission from Undervolt, the interview with AFC contributor Rea McNamara happens to be very thorough.
