- RM Vaughan has not seen the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) show, “The Last Art College”, but that’s not going to stop him from writing about it. Well, sort of. The enormous survey of 70’s conceptual art made at the college serves as an excuse to talk about how even though most people won’t see the show, they’ll still have an opinion on it. According to Vaughan, those people (himself included) are liars, and experts in art speak. (When cornered by a “keep it real idiot”, critique until they become disoriented and confused.) Many of the jewels in this piece comes in the form of reflection on some of that terminology. For example, “One of the many benefits of postmodernism is that you can be nostalgic for an age you never lived through, and nobody calls you out or thinks you’re delusional. Today you can be 26 and wax on about the Vietnam War as if you’d been a gunner during the Tet Offensive. Time, postmodernism teaches us, is just a construct and its supposedly entwined relationship to Space is as fake as an MGM musical.” [CBC Arts]
- Watercolor sales do not make a gallery’s rent in New York. Dealers can’t price art works in relation to their expenses—they need to reflect where the artist is at in their career. Rent makes up over a third of some gallery’s monthly expenses. It’s hard for dealers who represent emerging artists. [The Huffington Post, The New York Observer]

- The Royal B.C. Museum in Victoria has put on display a fish with a large head, small brain and unflattering name: a bony-eared assfish. “It’s an ugly fish. That’s why I like it” says curator Gavin Hanke. Go see it! [CBC]

- Ew. Ew. Ew. There’s now a masturbation booth at 28th and 5th street for dudes who need to jerk off in the middle of the day. It looks like a telephone booth, is free, and comes equipped with a chair and curtain. The booth is provided by London based sex toy company Hot Octopuss, which claims their interest is in public health of men. We’re not so sure this will improve the quality of life for city dwellers and workers. [Complex]
