Zach Doughtery‘s fossilized SD memory card evokes a future in the great geological time scale where our digital storage could wash up on the shores as Baltic amber. Entitled “Quaternary2015”, the recent work from the the Portland-based artist refers to the current geological time period, and seems to be part of a new series exploring a future where children play outdoors with an Oculus Rift headset on. The rapid spin and black background also recalls the aesthetic of stone and minerals videos found on Youtube, suggesting a preciousness of our electromagnetic data.
