Last week, the world was obsessed with the New York Botanical Garden’s “Corpse Flower,” which bloomed briefly and rarely. It even had its own webcam. It unfurls for just a few days about every 10 years, mimicing a decomposing body’s temperature and stench in order to attract flies (and tourist, apparently). It’s Latin name is Amorphophallus titanum, giant misshapen phallus, which makes this plant even weirder and more disgusting.
Unfortunately, the warm, smelly phallus has now shriveled. But if you didn’t make it up to the Bronx to catch a whiff, you can enjoy this stench-free rendering from Rick Silva, which will bloom forever thanks to the looping magic of the GIF.
