Lola Thompson, a Supplementary Biography

Lola Thompson, Image via Poptower.

No offense to Lola, but we wonder if it's wise for young artists, especially those with almost no previous exhibitions or fully-formed work, to step into the spotlight so quickly. Only 24 years old, Lola's still got plenty of growing to do.  On the flip side, her unpredictability could work in her favor when pitted against one-hit-wonders like Ugo Nonis.

ART WORLD CRED

There is not much cred to be said for some one who graduated from art school last year.  Lola earned her BFA in sculpture from Otis College of Art and Design.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

A BFA in sculpture from Otis College of Art and Design. There’s plenty of work up on her website, but not much of it has been shown.

Lola Thompson, These Are Very Powerful Objects With Many Incalculable Properties, Some Of Which Are Too Miraculous To Reveal (I can disclose but a few of their individual effects, which are as follows), mixed media, 2010

CHARACTER ASSESSMENT

Most of her work, be it gems on string, blind contour-ey drawings, or poetry, has a whiff of Nag Champa and new age ritual that's not unappealing.  Her unpredictability could work in her favor, or it could lead to a lot of last-minute concoctions and crumudgeonly scoldings from Simon de Pury. Based on her first episode freak-out, we suspect she'll be in over her head.

Also, she and her mom once lived with Al Pacino. So, yeah.

TYPECAST

The Hipster Sexpot.

GOD, who wrote this? So salty and envious. She’s beautiful, she’s talented, she’s on TV and she is damn charming. Shut up or go home…

There’s not a single negative sentence on this page. I actually think that’s a bit of a weakness. What, in particular, is salty or envious?

Lola Thompson = Privileged, pretty princess

Gets by on her looks and her social connections, is a bully. It never ceases to amaze me that in every world a woman’s looks will afford them credibility they don’t deserve.

Defend her all you want, only a bitter old ugly woman like myself could have this kind of perspective on Lola Thompson. Mean girl Lola.

appearance-wise, lola is not that attractive, it is her i-don’t-give-a-fuck michievous attitude that’s pretty appealing. definitely a connected girl who takes full advantage of her resources, and probably a fun person to hang out with/good reality tv show personality, but i concur with andrea, her parents probably may tell her she is a great artist and so will a bunch of her facebook groupie friends just so they can pretend to themselves that they will bang her out at some point, but her art and her sense of art….is…..gar….ba….ge

everyone who is attempting to put Lola down is danm envious. So what if she just came out of school? talent will shine, whether with experience or not.

I’m a fan of her work and it makes little difference to me what her age nor social status. Her light hearted tongue n’ cheek observations of the world around her is relevant and thoughtful. I am not certain why the comments below are discussing her appearance.
