- Art Dubai has a new director, Myrna Ayad. The fair’s only been around since 2007, but even in that short amount of time, programming can grow stale. - Galleries are being pushed out of West Chelsea due to rents and one developer thinks that sucks. Related will offer 15 new gallery spaces including ones in their Zaha Hadid-designed luxury condos. Paul Kasmin has already signed on. [Curbed]
- Crap! A.I. Friedman, the 80 year old art supply store and frame shop is closing! Why are so many art supply stores closing? Aside from high rents, the issue seems to be Amazon resellers and Blick, an art supply store that now has seven stores in New York. Also, apparently students are spending less on materials like paint. Perhaps they are making more art on their computers? [The New York Post]
