Admittedly, I’ve cheated a little here on GIF of the Day; Margaret Penney’s above GIF did not begin as such—it was an HTML file that I screen captured. The work is another in Curt Cloninger’s biennial for The Wrong, in which he asked artists to respond to the 1982 Adrian Belew video Big Electric Cat. I’m unclear on how the Rollin Leonard like figurative gif or the wave below relates to Belew’s piece, which is basically a fantastical cat journey through Manhattan. The flashing patterns above seems a little more on point if only because it blinks.
