I never watch baseball (B O R I N G!) so I had no clue this bizarre, enormous animatronic fountain thing existed until finding this GIF in Rebekah Monson’s story at The New Tropic. Apparently, it’s by the pop-artist Red Grooms and measures almost 70 feet tall. It shoots 30 gallons of water 40 feet high whenever the Marlins hit a home run. The Miami New Times reports that it cost $2.5 million and people kind of hate it. I kinda like it, if only for the fact that I can’t watch this GIF without hearing Gloria Estefan’s “Conga” in my head and imagining everyone in The Birdcage gathered around a TV cheering whenever Miami scores.
