Some curatorial statements are more clear than others. Based on the one curator Osman Can Yerebakan produced for the exhibition “Night’s Days” at AC Institute, we’re not sure what the show is supposed to be about. Judging by the content, I’d guess it has something to do with technology and what people do at night. A lot of fuck. As it happens, fucking and technology is the focus of Faith Holland’s work, so she’s a natural fit for the show. A few GIFs after the jump.

NSFW GIF of the Hump Day: Terrible Sexy New Year Blingees

Thinking back on all the cultural patrimony lost during 2015, there’s at least one thing that’s still glimmering with hope: Blingee. While this year saw ISIS plow through irreplaceable ancient cities, right-wing vandalism of artwork in Russia and France, and countless pieces of important architecture felled by asshole developers—I’m looking at you David S. Brown, destroyer of the singular, gorgeous Mechanic Theater—the GIF-making site Blingee faced deletion but managed to stay alive.

Let’s celebrate this small victory by reveling in the shamelessly trashy vernacular GIFs that wish us all a sexy new year.

The group has been encouraging off-duty police officers to photograph the city’s booming homeless population. Those images have been posted to the Association’s social media accounts in some sort of attempt to …shame people into not being homeless? [Hyperallergic]
Dragan Espenschied weighs in on Blingee’s imminent “sunsetting”, and what made it so attractive to artists with an internet-based practice: it was a web 2.0 “stupid” image-making tool with a distinct aesthetic (glitter!) operating within a web 1.0 community model. “Looking at a blingee in blingee display mode is like going through a 1990’s free graphics collection that amateurs used to exchange elements for their homepages.” Also: apparently Blingee’s super-users were Russian grandmothers.
