This week promises to be a lot of work for gallery goers as today marks the beginning of opening hell. Which is to say that gallery season is officially back in swing. There are too many gallery openings to list in this post, but of course that’s what we all use Artnet for. Incidentally, I was just at the Gallery Guide site, and their listings for September are still not up! Maybe I should take back what I said yesterday. Instantaneous correction: Gallery Guide’s listing has just been posted.
I for one am looking forward to seeing this years art circus. Since we all know that trying to look at art at an opening is about as easy as spotting a in goldfish a dirty fishbowl, this week is pretty much only about watching art nerds, freaks, and the occasional movie star. It’s also about seeing how the galleries fair in their first week out, but more on that tomorrow.
Personally, I’m hoping Mary Boone will bring out a head piece that will trump the perfectly egg shaped white fur hat she wore at one of her openings a couple of years ago. Much to the chagrin of Art Fag City, we have not been able to find any photos of this tour de force. Luckily, if there is one thing we can rely on it’s that there is always somebody in the art world wanting to give her a run for her money…in one way or another.
