Real Live Galleries Stay Open Late, Other Art Fair Related News Also Noted

by Art Fag City on March 6, 2006 Events

Thankfully, someone other than myself has tended to the loathsome task of listing the many art fairs that are going on this week, so rather than repeating efforts, I am simply providing a link to Art Addict who will prove to be a great resource this coming week.

Put on those walking shoes. New York is being deluged with contemporary art fairs next weekend. Here’s a list with schedules and locations. (I am particularly looking forward to Pulse and LA Art.)

Not surprisingly the Armory has become so large that virtually every other fair in the city this week is billing themselves as the “alternative”. Given that the format of an art fair is pretty standardized, the only venues that actually live up to meaning of the word are Scope and the collective event of participating Williamsburg galleries After Hours. These venues expand fair viewing either by providing additional innovative programming, (as is the case with Scope which offers an array of exciting curatorial and performance opportunities), or by circumventing the fair format all together, as is the case with After Hours. This Williamsburg event organizes participating galleries to keep their doors open until 11 pm, so visitors and locals who are dedicating their weekend to art can spend some time in a real live gallery, as well as the usual opportunity to drink wine and schmooze.
