You know, I have mixed feelings about the Armory Fair, and it doesn’t help any that they are sending out press releases that are basically fiscal reports for the season. According to the their excel spreadsheets, “galleries reported $62 million in sales, a 37% increase over $45 million in sales”, with attendance up from 40,000 to 47,000. I know these fairs are about business, but there is something off putting about being presented with a bunch of numbers and reading that visitors had to wait up to twenty minutes in line as though this is the criteria that should be used to determine a good art fair.
