Who are these people above, and why can’t I go anywhere in Chelsea without running into some painted relative of theirs? It doesn’t seem like I have to go out on much of limb here to say that this kind of painting is totally underwhelming. I don’t buy the fake naive painter schtick, nor do I find “walking that line” between good and shitty painting remotely engaging. Also, the fact that two excellent painters made nearly identically stylistic paintings within the space of four months does not bode well for this trend.
I will get into this in greater detail later, and in the meantime answer the question I’m sure you’re all wondering: Who is Frank? Look forward to tomorrow’s discussion on where he’s been showing up lately (outside the Schutz secondary market).
