It’s still unclear whether male cewebrity status attracts or repells women, but I tend to think the term web geek has been “reclaimed” in recent years to represent pasty white hipsters boys sporting the after glow of an LCD screen, in addition to say, men like this.
So maybe my male readers will meet some girls at ROFL!, an Internet gong show of sorts at Joe’s Pub Friday, June 22nd, but we don’t make any promises. Initially inspired by Tube Time, ROFL! expands upon the concept of a youtube competition, inviting eight bloggers and artists to enter with their finest Internet finds and creations. The audience determines the winner of each round of submissions, performer Reggie Watts will rap about it. Comedy duo Slovin and Allen will make jokes about it.
You’re reading about this event, not because I’m participating, but because AFC has provided “additional production” for Joe’s Pub with Jon Williams of Wizard is Hungry, and John Seroff of Tofu Hut. Basically this means I helped find some awesome competitors, which I’ve listed below. I happen to think a ticket to this event would be money well spent.
