I stopped by Pace University’s gallery Friday while doing a few unrelated errands in the city, and took some shots at the show This is That. The exhibition examines the artistic practice of, well, doing pretty much what the title describes, a dangerous subject to take on because you could quite easily end up with a bunch of simplistic conceptual projects. While some of the work inevitably runs into these problems, pieces like Loughlin’s cast fiberglass knittings and Alwin’s peach powered outspace hexigon exhibited a streamlined elegance I quite liked. The show came down Friday, but I posted the installation shot above and the work detail below regardless because the show reminded me that institutional galleries tend to be overlooked by almost everyone but the students of these universities. A close up of my favorite piece in the show follows. Sweetness…if you can it that.
