Light Industry, Brooklyn‘s preeminent alternative exhibition space, kicked off their first-ever fundraiser last week. Co-founded by critic and curator Ed Halter and partner Thomas Beard, the outfit launched in March 2008 to provide a wealth of academic yet approachable programming focused on contemporary art and new media. The space operates on a self-described “no-nonsense” budget featuring events by notable figures such as curators Bob Nickas and Lauren Cornell; artists K8 Hardy, Cory Arcangel, Seth Price, and Guthrie Lonergan; and scholars David Joselit and Annette Michelson. All proceeds from the fundraiser aid in the expansion of Light Industry‘s modest operating budget, and increasing honorariums for artists and curators. As Halter and Beard’s project accounts for some of the best programming in New York’s art world, we can’t think of a better project to support. The fundraiser runs through the end of the summer.
