Knelman: The AGO’s million-dollar morale problem
Chief executive officer of the Art Gallery of Ontario, Matthew Teitelbaum’s bonuses are stirring up controversy in Canada. The Director collected a project-completion and fundraising bonuses to the tune of $753 740 in 2009, the same year the gallery slashed its own budget, laid off staff, and reported revenue shortfalls. The AGO now reportedly as a moral problem — staff feel overworked and under appreciated — and of course, with his salary totaling 1,070,262, the Canadian public is wondering why he’s making more than their Premier. The AGO workers are threatening to strike.
