Date: Thursday, October 28th 2010Saturday, December 11th 2010
Venue: Galerie Lelong, 528 West 26th Street

For those of you who value the resurgent interest in feminist art, check out Ana Mendieta at Galerie Lelong. Mendieta’s artwork defies simple categorization, evoking concerns about the body, femininity, nature, and performance. For her famous series of Siluetas, Mendieta imprinted, carved, or painted her body in different landscapes and photographed the results. Mendieta also used an array of different media, producing filmic and photographic documents that are not simply recordings of her gestures but iconic artworks in themselves. Ana Mendieta: Documentation and Artwork, 1972-1985 presents materials from the artist’s huge archive, as well as rarely-displayed drawing photographs, and recently restored films.
