County Down Episode 8: The Mirror Game from Laura Parnes on Vimeo.
[Color Wheel is a series in which we identify a trending color in art for the week and post a daily image that illustrates its popularity. This week’s color is purple. Readers are invited to submit images throughout the week and we’ll post the best ones we receive.]
At least a few people who visited Laura Parnes’ recent show said they were sucked into her feature-length film “County Down.” Maybe it has something to do with the Rotoshop effect (the same one from Waking Life) but I think it also has to do with Parnes’ use of color: deep blues, pinks, and an overall aura of purple.
The colors make you feel druggy, which seems appropriate. The story’s about a bunch of kids who get hooked on a psychedelic drug which they drink from baby bottles; by drinking it, they become infectious carriers of gangrene. The show just closed at Fitzroy Gallery, but you can watch all the episodes online here.
