Sarah Morris’s new abstractions are the kind of safe painting critics are railing against these days, but her films may have a little more juice to them. In Rio, her 88 minute film currently on view at Petzel Gallery, Morris turns her camera to Brazil’s famous city, focusing on architecture, social interaction, and day-to-day living. As it happens, she’s also managed to capture quite a bit of orange in this film, hence her inclusion in this week’s Color Wheel. Sadly, we only have still images from the website. I guess somethings you just have to see in person.
