Is New York getting its own Young Vic, what the Telegraph’s theater reviewer Rupert Christianson recently called “the best theater in London”? Yes, or something like that.
The new Performing Arts Center at the World Trade Center (PAC) will be importing Young Vic’s driving visionary David Lan as Consulting Artistic Director, whom Christianson wrote “[L]ook back over the last three years or so, and I defy you to find anyone in town who can match David Lan’s record…”
PAC’s new “A-team” also includes associate artistic director Lucy Sexton of The Bessies, and design consultant Andy Hayles of Charcoalblue.
PAC hopes to mimic the buzzing community hub-destination status of Young Vic, which, according to their press release, “currently has no equal in New York.” PAC is billed as a “global center,” with three theaters, a cabaret space, rehearsal rooms, a green room, “unprecedented digital connectivity,” and HD simulcast capabilities– and an accessible space open to the public all day (a cafe?) In all seriousness, this is going to be a huge deal.
