Just some of Milwaukee’s notables who’ll be presenting on Friday.
It takes more than a degree to be an artist. Should you let city hall know about your impromptu public art exhibition? Does your project need a grant, or just some capital? Can you ask your bodega guy about curating a show in his deli? It’s rare to talk about any of this during a regular ol’ painting crit.
But if you’re in Milwaukee on Friday—like me—you’ll hear all about the intersections of art, business, and community engagement at the first-ever MarKEt/FORWARD symposium, held at the Pfister Hotel.

Cheese artist Sarah Kaufman’s cheddar sculpture of the Pfister Hotel.
From what I can tell, the symposium is for artists who don’t wear suits, but might need to deal with suits at some point. Which is practically everyone nowadays, making it a pretty good reason to go. Or, just go for the sake of peer pressure: everyone in Milwaukee will be there. It’s also free.
