Death doesn’t let you say goodbye. 2 hour finale episode in the works. Tell your cluster.

There have been few cancelled shows as passionately mourned as Sense8, the Netflix original queer sci-fi epic that bent minds and broke budgets. When the streaming service announced its cancellation earlier this month, millions of fans took to social media and petition sites to protest.

The show, which is filmed on location across nearly a dozen photogenic megacities, was apparently too expensive to continue as a regular series. Today, creator Lana Wachowski announced (via the above Instagram post) that Netflix has listened to the masses and is wrapping up the series with a two hour special next year. Now that the world-wide cast of characters has been left assembled in London in this year’s cliffhanger, their production budget should be slightly more manageable.

What will happen in the finale? Will Wolfgang be rescued? Will we finally get the satisfying trans-lesbian wedding network television hasn’t been able to provide? Two hours (by the series’ own erratic pacing) isn’t much time for a satisfying conclusion, but we can remain optimistic.

Time will tell. In the meantime, I imagine the internet fandom is freaking out with speculation and celebration.
