We owe it to Tyler Green of Modern Art Notes for spearheading “A Day for Detroit” and provoking a veritable downpour of tweets and blog posts. Green urged fellow art bloggers to post their favorite works from the Detroit Institute of Arts and tweet with the hashtage #DayDetroit to raise awareness for the museum’s collection. Given the volume of activity, we spent the better part of our day summarizing what happened.

All day long, Art F City and 21 other art blogs have been posting images from the Detroit Institute of Art’s invaluable art collection, as part of an online event called “A Day for Detroit”. There are fantastic works to be found in their holdings, which, unfortunately, face the threat of being sold off to cover the city of Detroit’s debts. This would be an irreparable loss for those who’ve lived and worked in close proximity to DIA.
We’ll continue to share images and tweets into the evening, but as we look to wrap up our coverage on the blog, we turn to artist and Assistant Professor of Art at Wayne State University, Cristobal Mendoza.
