Saul Chernick

Saul Chernick's works meld classical art historical aesthetics from the distant past with a contemporary perspective and visual sensibility. Britany Salsbury of Artforum writes: Mining the legacy of Northern Renaissance artists such as Hans Baldung Grien and Albrecht Dürer, Saul Chernick's drawings seem as much a realization of these artists' greatest fears—eroticism, death, chaos—as homage to their moralizing iconography. Ken Johnson, art critic for the New York Times, describes his drawings as "zany" and "consummately skillful".

Chernick has exhibited internationally in galleries, museums, and cultural institutions including The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, The Bronx Museum of Art, The Arad Museum of Art, and is currently represented by the Meulensteen Gallery (formerly Max Protetch) in New York City. He received his MFA from the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, and his BFA at the Rhode Island School of Design. He currently resides in Brooklyn, NY.
