A Prediction Willfully Lost on the New York Times

by Art Fag City on May 10, 2006 Events

Frank Rich, a columnist for the for the New York Times on cultural trends and author of the book “The Secret Way to War” predicted the fall of print media to the blogosphere yesterday on The Colbert Report. In response to the question of future of traditional media, he shook his head and said “We’re All Doomed“, adding, “It’s all going to be hand held“.

He’s right of course. Some of the most best journalism today comes from blogosphere – the first example coming to mind being Bob Somerby – frankly, it’s hard to imagine how anyone is as smart and as good as that guy is. Sure it’s apples and oranges, but by any standards the art world has a lot of ground to cover in order to catch up to the quality of reporting that goes on in other fields in the blogosphere. It should be a point of embarrassment for us, but since the rest of the community is so far behind, by default we qualify as cutting edge. It is duly noted that the Times is still in need of an art blogger.
