Pablo Picasso On Stalin’s Cock

Not the sculpture, but the closest picture I could find in my hasty Internet search.  A drawing of Stalin by Picasso.  1953

Facebook can be a real treasure trove of goodies if you use it right.  Originally posted by the self described fledgling historian Greg Afinogenov and forwarded to me by B, this quote has been circulating around the site.  Picasso on being commissoned to do a statue of Stalin below.

“Can you imagine if I had done the real Stalin, such as he has become, with his wrinkles, his pockets under the eyes, his warts. A portrait in the style of Cranach! Can you hear them scream? ‘He has disfigured Stalin! He has aged Stalin!’

“And then too, I said to myself, why not a Stalin in heroic nudity? … yes, but Stalin nude, and what about his virility? If you take the pecker of the classical sculptor … so small … But, come on, Stalin, he was a true male, a bull. So then, if you give him the phallus of a bull, and you’ve got this little Stalin behind this big thing they’ll cry: But you’ve made him into a sex maniac! A satyr!

Then if you are a true realist you will take a tape measure and measure it all properly. That’s worse, you made Stalin into an ordinary man. And then, as you are ready to sacrifice yourself, you make a plaster cast of your own thing. Well, it’s even worse. What, you dare take yourself for Stalin! After all, Stalin, he must have had an erection all the time, just like the Greek statues … Tell me, you who knows, socialist realism: is that Stalin with an erection or without an erection?”

Posting Notice: This will be the only post of the day.  Tomorrow the blog will be active, but will close up shop Thursday and Friday for the holidays.

After all those useless lectures by university Marxists at the University of Marx, I now finally understand the vanguard of the proletariat, the Marxist prick. This is why PicASSo’s drawing makes Stalin look the dickhead?
A figleaf by Rodchenko out of the question, can we make his dick into a Kleshnikov? The thought, though, of the Pic obssessing over another man’s dick, thinly veiled under socialist propaganda, lends new insight to the heteronormativity usually associated w/ Picasso. Now, is his homoerotixxx innately determined or socially constructed? No help from Karl as his family unit never entertained homosexuality, afterall, who ever heard of gay revolutionaries? Who knows maybe the tanks would have come in designer colors? The sketch has problems anyway, w/ the change in facial hair not being matched in the hair line and the eyes don’t coordinate well. Cezannian leftovers, perhaps. Good to see the skilled having mediocre moments, but I digress.

Apparently, too, it was only a contemplated project and not a realized one.

“Pablo Picasso On Stalin’s Cock” pretty much says it all in a porny way. All I know is Picasso worked for an anarchist’s newspaper in pre-Paris days, what he did I’m guessing was draw caricature’s, something I think he never lost doing, especially to women. The mainstream view is that he surrendered the uber-zeitgeist of anarchy for Marxism, less on political lines than on the fact the commies were the only one’s who stayed in Paris and fought the nazi’s. Does everyone buy that? Eventually the brutal Stalin pin pricked Picasso’s erection for Communism w/ his pact w/ the Nazi’s, as it deflated America’s burgeoning socialism as well. I think we Americans still live in a default capitalism as a result. Interesting though, I’m guessing the Picasso shows over the years have erased the pink fringes, just as Warhol’s gayness has been downplayed. I personally would die under communist rule or anything laid down by yet another German w/ visions of world order. Maybe it’s the repression that has given chinese art such a focus lately. Did Warhol ever do Stalin?
