Thomas Hoving, author and former Director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art will join artnet as a contributer to their magazine. Those who are unfamiliar with his tenure at the Met may better know him for his appearance in the documentary, Who the #$&% is Jackson Pollock, a documentary about a truck driver named Teri Horton who found a now disputed Jackson Pollock in a thrift store. An excerpt discussing Hovings comments on Ms. Horton, from the review of the movie I wrote for The Reeler below,

it seems like there is virtually nothing that could have curtailed [Thomas] Hoving’s arrogance, who at one point declares “[Horton] knows nothing. I’m an expert. She’s not.” In fairness, however, had he heard the same fabricated provenance (the painting’s lineage of ownership) Horton unabashedly tells the audience earlier in the movie, this would undoubtedly inform his poor behavior (not that it excuses it.) LINK

One assumes Hoving will tone the elitism down a little when writing for artnet.

I wonder if the next time they hire a writer they’ll make sure he can write. On the other hand, Richard Polsky now has some competition.
