In today’s fast moving times, four years is a lifetime. This spring’s contemporary art totals from the big three auction houses in New York (Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Phillips de Pury & Co.)was a cool $955 million. In the fall of 2004, the same sales with the same three houses brought only $278
million.
