LEFT TO RIGHT: Kanye West/Vanessa Beecroft, VBKW 3, 2008, Vanessa Beecroft, VB45.9036.ali, 2001
The photo documentation of the Kanye West/Vanessa Beecroft performative collaboration for the 808s & Heartbreak album launch this past Tuesday [pictured above left] is so bad I initially mistook it as a lame homage to the artist. Frankly, I’m surprised West had any desire to work with the woman. Did he not see Pietra Brettkelly’s documentary on Beecroft, The Art Star and the Sudanese Twins? Vulture summarized the movie well. She comes off as a raging attention seeking narcissist oblivious to her racist behavior.

“She comes off as a raging attention seeking narcissist oblivious to her racist behavior.”
Substitute “He” for “She” and, well, anything derogatory for “racist” and you’ve got a spot-on description of Kanye. So the match makes perfect sense to me.

Yeah, there is that too.
Yeah, there is that too.
I’d rather see 50 Cent snort a line before an interview than listen to Kanye sing. You can see that on Youtube by the way.

Don’t u get it at all? Female identity in the world and politics, gender construction and deconstruction. Maybe u should look at the body of her work and maybe you would get it. It’s not about labels, it’s about stripping away labels and getting to the heart.

vanessa is honest and a human being. She is not racist. She acts how most of us would but as herself, without any boundaries. almost like a child. innocent and with good intentions but raped for her enthusiasm.
