Jeff Koons in Versailles
This alone demonstrates why Jeff Koons deserves many of the accolades he’s received: the height of one aesthetic period, elegant and simple in form, reflects the exhaustive ornate expression of another. Brilliant.

I think the idea of his work at Versailles was a genius concept. He is playful and reflects the decadence of our time, and what could be more reflecting of excess and gorgeous arrogance than Versailles? A perfect combination. Outside of that, he looks fairly silly. Taking cartoon characters, balloon animals really, and making perfectly done shiny versions for posterity. Kinda charming, but then Hitler did love his pet canary, and was a vegetarian. Go figure.

I enjoyed very much Jeff Koons at Versailles. But what is the most interesting, the artworks or the way they are placed in Versailles? Out of Versailles, are they not common, surrounded by a culture full of kitsch? I personally think they deserve the ‘art’ sticker…

I love Koons, you either get him or you don’t. By the way, Hitler was not a vegetarian as someone stated above. This is myth, not fact. Stalin, however, WAS a meat-eater for sure, and so were most evil people in history.
