Cover design Joseph Albers

Over the weekend I was introduced to two fabulous album covers, the above, a Las Vegas style cover album with Terry Snider and the All Stars, designed by Joseph Albers.  In the unlikely event I have readers traveling to Porto Portugal within the next month, the record can be purchased at Inc, a one of a kind art bookstore in the area also carrying records designed by artists.  (Address to come — I’m not so good with Portugese Google.)

Meanwhile, this album cover came up the next day while I was hanging out with parents discussing how their children don’t like to be bored.   Not having kids myself, I didn’t have much to add to that particular conversation, though I did manage to relevantly note that the buses to Nowhere and Boredom clearly lead to the same place.

In more relevant news, 31 Grand, a gallery specializing in contemporary and emerging art announced it will close its doors in a combo Christmas and final show email.  They will be missed.

Perhaps 31 Grand could relocate back to it’s original location, they were already missed in Brooklyn. Maybe even more than they will be on Ludlow street. What a shame though.

In other, decidedly opposite and encouraging, news: Triple Candie will be opening a new space further uptown from it’s previous and storied enterprise, at 148th and Amsterdam. Something to look forward to, no?

Onward and Upward, I say!

rumor has it that 31 grand will in some way join forces with another gallery (on 27th street) not a perfect union but at least its something…

“Noise Ramones” album cover using a blatant rip of Josef Albers piece. Noise Ramones is a Boredoms side project. EERIE.

Hi, Paddy — The Albers album cover reminded me that I’ve got an old Web site from 1995 that I keep up as a kind of dusty museum. I scanned some of my favorite oddball album covers, including that Albers.

That was such a simpler time!
