its really insane how much people eat up this guys stuff. remember in 1999 everyone was freaking out over all those super-designy sites with the ‘flash experiments’? at least then it was Brand New, and those dudes were actually making it themselves. and now, 10 years later, we get a sub-par version of that, and, and, and, it isnt even raphael making it, its poor reinier feijen, the ‘programmer’. lame.

There’s certainly a couple pieces by Rosendaal I think have received undue attention, but I liked this piece. The simplicity of his work sometimes makes me wonder if there’s enough to it, but here I was happy with exactly what I was given. The argument that the piece is less successful because it’s not coded by him though is about 10 years old too.

the ‘he doesnt make it himself’ argument is totally 10 years old, but i think it applies here. i mean its one thing to have cadre of assistants who are helping you knock out art under your direction, especially when you have some sort of grand art something or other and you need some help so you can get the thing made. fine, whatever. but we’re talking about 1-note flash pieces here. its sort of like “okay reinier, i need a black and white geometric landscape with some robo-sounds’, and then a week later reiner delivers. where does raphael’s idea end and where does reiner’s begin? they are an Art Duo and it seems like raphael doesnt acknowledge that fact.

If Rosendaal gave him a bunch of files and an mp3 and said “here, animate this”, I don’t think there’s much problem in the crediting. Your scenario presents a few more issues though. Of course, one could also make the argument that the idea’s so simple that it wouldn’t matter who coded the piece. But I don’t buy that.
