Miami Cares What You Ate Last Night

The island of fifteen-dollar Velveeta grilled cheese sandwiches known as South Beach can suck it. It only took four consecutive years of art fair attendance, but I finally found some inexpensive food I don't hate in Miami. I have the NADA art fair to thank for that, which is located at the Deauville Hotel in North Beach. It's not fancy, but yesterday I purchased a Krispy Crème donut for under a dollar at the Walgreens across the street and nearly cried. It was neither stale nor five times its regular price. I followed this with a six-dollar pulled pork sandwich from a nameless street counter out front of the hotel. It tasted just fine.

I know it's poor diligence on my part as a blogger, but I opted out of attending the art scene-y events yesterday evening for a delicious steak and cheese dinner at the Peruvian fusion cuisine restaurant El Rincon de Chabuca. Sure, I missed the Wynwood Walls opening with transvestite rapper Big Freedia (hosted by Goldman Properties and Deitch Projects) and an uber-exclusive Art Basel dinner party at Soleá, but Chabuca offered an awesomely mediocre Latin American flutist and singer performing Cindy Lauper's Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Serendipitously, the Deauville Hotel's pool bar played that same song this morning.
