Jean Wells, Teddy Bear, 2009, $50,000. Timothy Yarger Fine Art
I’m not going to waste much time discussing Art Miami because the fair isn’t worth the energy. Sure, their smooth concrete floors improve upon the rickety wooden one they had last year, but if they fill the space with crap it doesn’t make much difference. Perplexingly, Pace Prints has a booth at this fair; I can only assume they are fielding a litany of complaints from artists whose work has been contextualized with a ridiculous $50,000 sculpture of a golden teddy bear.

That’s a shame. I thought last year it was quite good. There was very interesting video work on display and I met several friendly dealers and artists. I wonder what happened.

I’ve always though Miami art scene sucks. So do their politics.
At least they have Flipper.

But the price of gold keeps rising. It’s such a sound investment!

Flipper isn’t even in Miami; we have nothing going for us…

I don’t agree with this at all. Dale looks at each and every booth in each and every show. I don’t…but did go to the opening of Art Miami before spending 3 days at Art Basel. Dale ranks this years shows as follows: Art Basel, Pulse, Art Miami……and then all the rest. I thought Art Miami was a very good show and a show that’s being built to be better each year. Sure, there were a few dealers who will likely be curated out next year and a few things that shouldn’t be in the show but to show one piece and dis an entire show is unfair reduccio ad absurdum.

okay, Art Miami offers some interesting work. I was imitating something I read, an unfair review.
